Admissions and Registration
Admission to Summer Sessions at NC State University is dependent upon your student classification.
NC State Degree Students
Whether you are an undergraduate wanting to advance your academic standing at NC State or a graduate student desiring to continue study and research during the summer months, Summer Sessions provide opportunities.
Currently Enrolled Degree Students
Students enrolled at NC State during the Spring Semester do not need to apply to Summer Session and are already eligible for registration. Currently enrolled degree students, either graduate or undergraduate, will register for courses via MyPack Portal just like they do any other term. If you will graduate at the end of the spring semester, you will need to apply to register as a non-degree student.
Degree Students Who Are Not Currently Enrolled
NC State degree students who are not currently enrolled will have to complete the readmission process through the Department of Registration and Records at least 30 days prior to the intended date of return.
Non-Degree Students (NDS) and Visiting Students
Update your résumé. Improve your skills. Test the collegiate waters.
Through the Non-Degree Studies (NDS) program, individuals in the community can register for NC State University undergraduate and graduate-level credit courses without having been formally admitted to a degree program. Credits earned as an NDS student may later be applied to a degree program. Day and evening on-campus classes are available to accommodate a variety of needs. Students without an undergraduate degree taking classes through NDS are classified as Undergraduate Studies (UGS) students. Students with an undergraduate degree are classified as Post Baccalaureate Studies (PBS) students.
Currently Enrolled NDS Students
For NDS students enrolled in the current Spring Semester, you may register online through MyPack Portal system using the same Unity ID and Unity password previously assigned to you. If you do not remember your previous ID please contact our office at 919-515-2572. New NDS Students and Returning NDS Students (those who have missed one or more regular semesters) visit the NDS website for information on taking Summer Sessions classes.
Visiting and First Time Students
In Raleigh for the summer? Take classes for credit to transfer back to your home institution, to meet professional certification requirements, for better job opportunities or for personal enrichment.
Visiting students and community members can register for Summer Sessions classes through the Non-Degree Studies program. Students without an undergraduate degree taking classes through NDS are classified as Undergraduate Studies (UGS) students. Students with an undergraduate degree are classified as Post Baccalaureate Studies (PBS) students.
Remember if you are a visiting student, you should discuss your registration with your adviser or dean at your home institution. They will help determine the transferability of credit back to your degree program.
